Ahead of the upcoming China Youth Day, Chinese President Xi Jinping – also General Secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee – has visited Renmin University of China in Beijing. Xi called for more research into the history of the CPC, and for the building of world-class universities with Chinese characteristics. CGTN's reporter You Yang has more.
Chinese President Xi Jinping visited Renmin University of China on Monday ahead of China's Youth Day which falls on May 4th. The Chinese Leader extended his best wishes to all the country's young people as well as to educators and young workers across the nation.
During his visit, President Xi visited an 'intelligent classroom', where he learned about reform and innovation in education methods. He encouraging schools, including Renmin University of China, to provide more classes on ideological-political issues.
When visiting a museum, the Chinese president had a chance to taking a closer look at the history and the development of the university. He called for more research into the history and evolution of the Communist Party of China.
President Xi also communicated with senior professors and experts, praising their contributions to the school's development. Xi then chaired a symposium with the university's teachers and students. He called for the building of world-class universities with Chinese characteristics, adding that the world is undergoing the greatest changes in a century.
He said that philosophy and social science workers should dedicate themselves to enhancing civilization exchanges, spreading the Chinese voice, and making contributions to build a community with a shared future for mankind.

The Renmin University of China is a research-oriented comprehensive university, which focuses on humanities and social sciences. With a history dating back decades, it's also the first modern university founded by the People's Republic of China.
