A report has been released by the Tongzhou Global Development Forum being held in Beijing to give references to the realization of the United Nations 2030 Sustainable Development Goals. CGTN's Zheng Yibing has more.
At the Tongzhou Global Development Forum held in Beijing this year, Renmin University of China released a report titled "Humanity 2050: Comprehensive Human and Social Development."
ZHANG DONGGANG Chairman of the University Council Renmin University of China "It is based on the United Nations Millennium Development Goals and 2030 Sustainable Development Goals. We put forward the goals of comprehensive human development by 2050. We Chinese scholars want to contribute to a better and beautiful future of mankind."
Time is getting tight for realization of the UN 2030 Sustainable Development Goals. That's the reason the report is formed to evaluate the progress and the implementation of the goals.
WANG WEN Dean of Chongyang Institute for Financial Studies Renmin University of China "We have conducted a series of assessments on 17 large targets and more than 100 small targets of the SDG 2030 goals, so as to find out why some aspects can be achieved well, why some others not, and what are the reasons? For these, we offer some experiences and suggestions that China can contribute."
The report further sets the Comprehensive Development Goals 2050 as references for the world. It warns that there are at least four major risks or red lines, including economic downturn, superpower games, climate change, and a technological crisis.
Simply put: humans must stop wars, address the climate crisis, prevent derailing of technological innovation, and promote sustained economic development before it's too late.
The report involves efforts from a team with experts from various countries and fields and is expected to help top-level decision making and concrete implementation of proposals.
JOHN ROSS Former Director of Economic and Business Policy for the Mayor of London "This forum and the university, that's the specific role that they play in this. And so, I'm very pleased to see that I think the report deals with the most important questions and helps to get some of closer to the truth."
ZHENG YIBING Beijing "In line with the UN 2030 Sustainable Development Goals, the Tongzhou Global Development Forum hopes to set an example to help address global challenges and foster a community of shared development for all. Zheng Yibing, CGTN, Beijing."
