China has been seeing its consumption patterns transform in a healthy development, experts told CGTN's "Talking China" debate show broadcast on Tuesday.

Asked about reports over the so-called consumption downgrade, Li Cheng, founding director of the Center on Contemporary China and the World at the University of Hong Kong, said the term is highly problematic since it seems to suggest that more affordable or rational consumption patterns are a downgrade compared to the previous consumption patterns.

According to him, it is more accurate to say China's consumption "adjustment" or "normalcy" reflects dynamic and diverse trends, indicating healthy development.

Echoing Li, Wang Wen, dean of Chongyang Institute for Financial Studies at Renmin University of China, said the country is experiencing a transformation in consumption patterns. Such patterns are marked by significant growth in green, technology-driven, as well as cultural and tourism-related consumption, Wang said.
